Glad to hear you are ok Pete. I was in Christchurch for about 5 hours last Tuesday, a week after the quake, to help a friend move out of his house on Bridle Path Road, which has since been fully cordoned off for the danger of falling boulders. I didn't see much of the damage, in fact chose not to, but what little I saw was painful. I especially wasn't prepared for the dust.

If you are heading back to NZ, I would just buy it here. We are getting the iPad 2 on the 26th March, and then you will have local warranty and support. Yes 3G is supported here in NZ.

iBooks and the iWork applications are all available, iBook just dosent have as much content as in other regions yet.

Also the prices here work out to be cheaper than if you purchased in the UK. I would go to the apple.com/nz page and get the NZ price do a price compare to the UK prices. last time i looked it was cheaper to purchase here.

So, question: if I buy an ipad2 in the uk or usa before heading home to nz, do you think I'll be able to do everything that I can do with it over here? I read somewhere that iBooks and iWork were only available through the USA store. Did your trick of getting a USA account and using iTunes vouchers get around that? Or, maybe this has changed now anyway - is that what your update about the NZ App Store means??

I'd be really grateful for any advice about the advantages of buying ipad2 in the UK or USA before heading home, or waiting and buying one from NZ!! (I wonder, for example, if NZ is set up for 3G....)

Keith, No sorry. It was a long while ago now. I do recall I had to do a number of restarts before it showed up in XBMC. Perhaps uninstall the Crystal HD, and reinstall see if that kicks it into life.

I put mine in but XBMC doesn't seem to see it....
