Track Days
Sunday (Day after new Bridgestone's were put on) Was a track day at Manfield raceway. It was a car and bike day. There were five sessions for the bike, each 15 minutes long. This was the first time that I had the SV on the track. The first sessions I was really rusty and slow (Didn't what to throw it down the road). But buy the end of the day I was smoother and getting faster. But the day ended to soon. I had the pegs down once or twice.
A week later there was another open day. This time a bike only day. This was great. Unfortunately for the organisers there was only a small turnout, about 15-20 bikes. Which was great for us riders as it was very casual and we could basically go out when we wanted for as long as we wanted, Usually 30 minute stints or longer. I went through 1.5 tanks full of gas which I guesstimate to be about 250-270 km covered. The bike was great, the new tyres and fork springs worked really well together. I was much more confident this time than last week and started to push a lot harder. This time after the day had finished, I had worn the hero knobs off. (I couldn't be bothered taking them out). I didn't have a scary moment all day. ... Ok a had a few. Most were coming in to a corner to hot (Surprise). However the SV never felt really out of shape the whole day
The bike handled everything I threw at it. bad riding, missed gear changes. I was riding with much faster bikes but could keep up & make ground on them the corners, but lost out on the long straights. But its hard to know how hard the other riders were pushing. I had heaps of fun. The tyres were great. I never had a scare with the front and they are worn to the edge, The rear did start to slide around after a few laps. But always gripped well. I was very impressed with both tyres. Even after a hard day at the track they didn't show much wear, Well the rear didn't. The front was. I can image what the 207 would have looked like after the same treatment. Most bikes that were there were on 207s, During the day they showed considerable wear. Admittedly more powerful that the SV. There were R1, Ducatis of all types, monster, 900ss, 748sp... TL1000R's (Had fun passing one on the outside in a tight corner, But he blasted pass on the straight, only to be caught up in the corners again...Tee hee) But the best bike to show up was an MV Augusta F4. First I've seen in the flesh and heard. On be still my beating heart. That bike is sex on wheells. Dukes & R1s looked very ordinary compared to that bike. It was just awesome... I want one. You can see where the money goes. Please let me win lotto. So after the track day the tyres were well worn, hero knobs gone, and a very happy more confident rider. Exactly what track days are for. |
